Abstract
Dielectric breakdown in high voltage insulation systems is a critical phenomenon influencing the reliability and safety of electrical equipment. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of dielectric breakdown mechanisms, factors affecting breakdown strength, and experimental evaluation methods for high voltage insulation materials. Emphasis is placed on solid, liquid, and gaseous dielectrics used in power systems and their breakdown behavior under different electrical stresses. The study consolidates findings from prior research conducted until 2019 and presents an experimental methodology for assessing breakdown voltages using standardized test setups. The results demonstrate the influence of material composition, temperature, moisture content, and electrode geometry on dielectric strength. This work aims to guide engineers in selecting and designing insulation materials to enhance the operational lifespan of high voltage equipment.
