Abstract
Harmonic distortion in power distribution systems has become a critical concern due to the proliferation of non-linear loads, adversely affecting power quality and equipment reliability. This paper investigates the analysis of harmonic distortion in power distribution networks using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) techniques. The study focuses on identifying harmonic components, evaluating Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), and assessing their impact on the distribution system. Simulation models representing typical distribution feeders with non-linear loads were developed in MATLAB/Simulink, and FFT analysis was performed on voltage and current waveforms. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of FFT in accurately detecting and quantifying harmonics, aiding in the diagnosis and mitigation of power quality issues. Recommendations for harmonic reduction through appropriate filtering and system design improvements are discussed.
