Abstract

The implementation of Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) protocols for Windows on ARM-based systems using I2C System Management Bus (SMBus) is critical for optimizing power management and hardware interoperability. ARM architectures, known for their efficiency, are increasingly integrated into laptops, tablets, and IoT devices running Windows. However, these systems require seamless communication between the operating system and hardware components to ensure efficient power management and device control. ACPI protocols serve as a standard framework, facilitating this interaction by enabling the operating system to dynamically manage power states and hardware performance.

I2C SMBus, a widely adopted communication protocol, is instrumental in enabling the exchange of configuration and power data between the OS and ARM-based hardware components. This implementation focuses on developing a robust ACPI layer, interfacing with the I2C SMBus to ensure real-time control of power, sensors, and peripherals. Key challenges involve synchronizing low-level I2C transactions with ACPI firmware and ensuring compatibility with the Windows operating environment.

This study outlines the methods used to integrate ACPI protocols on ARM systems by leveraging the I2C SMBus for efficient data exchange. It also highlights the benefits of improved energy efficiency, faster boot processes, and enhanced system stability. The research provides insights into the complexities of configuring ACPI tables, firmware adjustments, and power state transitions. The successful implementation of ACPI over I2C SMBus opens opportunities for advancing ARM systems running Windows, ensuring optimal power usage while maintaining system performance.
