Abstract
Heritage buildings are invaluable assets that represent cultural identity and architectural history. However, aging materials, environmental factors, and seismic vulnerabilities threaten their structural integrity. This manuscript presents a comprehensive study on structural retrofitting techniques applied to heritage buildings, emphasizing methods suitable for preserving historical value while enhancing safety and durability. The study includes a review of existing retrofitting technologies up to 2019, methodologies for assessing structural performance, and simulation-based research to evaluate retrofitting effectiveness. Statistical analysis compares retrofitting impacts across different methods. Results demonstrate that fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites, base isolation, and traditional strengthening techniques such as masonry reinforcement and steel jacketing provide significant improvements. This work aims to guide engineers and conservationists in selecting appropriate retrofitting strategies tailored to heritage structures.
