Abstract
Synchronization failure of generators during grid connection or islanding conditions can cause severe damage to both the generator and the power system infrastructure. This paper presents an in-depth analysis of synchronization failure phenomena, their causes, and various protection techniques used to mitigate these issues. The study reviews traditional synchronization methods, relay-based protection schemes, and modern control approaches applied until 2019. Experimental results and simulation studies are discussed to evaluate the effectiveness of protection systems in preventing generator damage and maintaining grid stability. This research provides comprehensive insights into synchronization failure protection strategies and highlights best practices for reliable generator operation.
Keywords Synchronization failure, generator protection, synchronization relay, grid stability, protective relays, power system protection.
