Abstract
This manuscript explores the design, implementation, and evaluation of a hybrid cryptosystem combining RSA and AES for secure data transmission in engineering applications as of 2017. We examine historical developments, detail two industry‐relevant case studies—secure telemetry in power systems and protected SCADA communications—identify prevailing research gaps in performance and key‐management overhead, and propose a methodology integrating RSA key exchange with AES data encryption. Results from a prototype implementation on standard workstation hardware demonstrate that the hybrid approach achieves strong confidentiality and integrity with acceptable latency for engineering control loops. We conclude by summarizing benefits and outlining directions for optimizing hybrid schemes in resource‐constrained environments.
