Abstract
This study investigates the thermal stress distribution in automotive brake discs during emergency braking scenarios. Understanding the behavior of brake discs under sudden and intense thermal loads is crucial for ensuring safety and reliability in vehicle braking systems. Using finite element analysis (FEA) techniques with material properties and boundary conditions prevalent before 2019, the thermal and mechanical responses of cast iron brake discs were simulated. The analysis reveals significant thermal gradients causing stress concentrations, which may lead to crack initiation and disc failure if not adequately managed. The findings provide insight into the critical regions of thermal stress and support design improvements for enhanced performance and durability.
