Abstract
This manuscript presents a comprehensive study on the tribological behavior of composite materials under dry sliding conditions. The wear resistance and friction characteristics of various composite systems are analyzed with an emphasis on their microstructural and mechanical properties influencing tribological performance. The study synthesizes experimental findings from different fiber-reinforced, particulate, and hybrid composites, highlighting key factors such as filler types, matrix material, and sliding parameters. Methodologies for wear testing and friction evaluation are critically reviewed. Results indicate that composites with certain reinforcements exhibit superior wear resistance and lower coefficient of friction under dry sliding compared to traditional metals and polymers. The conclusion underscores the potential of optimized composite materials for engineering applications demanding high durability and low maintenance in dry friction environments.
