Abstract
This paper presents an in-depth study on the use of geosynthetics for the reinforcement of embankments, focusing on their effectiveness in improving stability, reducing settlements, and enhancing load distribution. Various types of geosynthetics, including geotextiles, geogrids, and geomembranes, have been investigated for their applications in embankment reinforcement. The research integrates literature reviews, laboratory testing, and numerical simulation using finite element methods consistent with technologies available until 2019. Statistical analysis of experimental data reveals significant improvements in bearing capacity and reduced deformation with geosynthetic reinforcement. Simulation results further validate the experimental findings, showing the interaction mechanism between soil and geosynthetic layers. The study concludes that proper selection and placement of geosynthetics can substantially improve embankment performance, providing cost-effective and sustainable solutions in geotechnical engineering.
